The 2019 National UNITY Conference kicked off with a one-of-a-kind communications training featuring some of the best multi-media instructors in Arizona. The bootcamp was made possible through a partnership with Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Mass Communication and Journalism. The camp also featured Colton Shone, the morning anchor for KOB Eyewitness News Today in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Prior to working at KOB, Colton was a reporter in Phoenix in both television at CBS 5 News and radio at KTAR-FM.
This two-day training was held on Wednesday, July 3 and will continued on Thursday, July 4. The training was an intensive multi-media storytelling crash course for Native youth who have an interest in video production and wish to have their videos featured as part of UNITY News. Youth participants will be paired with mentors to produce videos for inclusion in UNITY News segments which were broadcast during the National UNITY conference.

While keeping up with the growing interest in creating videos and multimedia projects, the UNITY NEWS team provided the tools for Native youth to tell their story through the power of their cellphones. The four videos created from the UNITY NEWS Communications Camp been shared on all social media outlets, website, and UNITY YouTube channel.

UNITY partnered with Phoenix ABC 15 and Arizona State University to produce UNITY News and host a Communications Camp at the 2019 National UNITY Conference. The following videos includes a brief description of UNITY, its history, and a conference preview.
