UNITY shines light on Bullying Prevention

During National Bullying Prevention/Awareness Month, in fighting for those who’ve dealt with bullying, UNITY wants you to know YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

The Executive Committee hopes that UNITY Youth Councils will encourage others to “Be a Hero” in their home communities to combat negative consequences associated with bullying. H.E.R.O. stands for the traditional concepts that can be used to live a healthy lifestyle when faced with adversity: Healing, Empower, Respect and Overcome.

While shining light on the positivity of being a H.E.R.O., we reviled our beautiful model for the initiative! Ms. Diondria Fawn Diep Pilger, Miss Red Mountain Eagle Pow Wow Princess 2017-2018! Diondria is from the Akimiel O’odham, Yankton Dakota tribes, and also Vietnamese and white descent.

How can your youth help spread awareness? One way is by sharing your story of resilience. We challenged Native Youth to download and print the “Be a HERO” graphic, take a picture and share on social media. Bullying Prevention shouldn’t end with October. It is not too late to share your story, please email Jared Ivins-Massey at j.massey@unityinc.org for more information or assistance.
