Free leadership training for up to 120 Native American youth and their advisors is available on a first come first serve basis in April in Saint Paul, Minnesota. United National Indian Tribal Youth, also known as UNITY, in partnership with the Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) is hosting the “Today’s Native Leaders” (TNL) youth leadership event at the InterContinental Saint Paul Riverfront Hotel from April 15-17, 2016. There is no registration fee!
The TNL training, which focuses on culturally relevant leadership development, will include:
- Team building exercises
- Action planning & Event promotion
- Developing community service projects
- How to establish a UNITY youth council
- Opportunity to present in a national forum
This training, featuring peer youth trainers, is sure to empower and motivate your youth! Partial lodging scholarships are available on a first come, first serve basis. Youth trained through this initiative will have an opportunity to play leadership roles at the annual National UNITY Conference this summer in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Future Trainings
The TNL initiative will offer tribal youth leadership training in three additional regions over the next two years. Future trainings have been scheduled for Barrow, Alaska and Palm Springs, CA in 2016; and Boston, MA, in 2017. Trainings will expand the number of UNITY youth councils and youth-led community service projects.
