Motivational Trainer and National Speaker / Recording Artist Headline Training for Native Youth

Mesa, Arizona—Motivational trainer Jeri Brunoe, Wasco Tribe, and Marcus Guinn, Osage and Potawatomi Tribes, are teaming up to offer free leadership training for up to 100 Native American youth from April 10 to April 12 in Rapid City, South Dakota.  United National Indian Tribal Youth, also known as UNITY, in partnership with the Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) is hosting the “Today’s Native Leaders” (TNL) youth leadership event at the Hilton Garden Inn in Rapid City. There is no registration fee.

Brunoe, who builds her leadership training techniques upon her culture and traditions, has served as a Lead Trainer for UNITY for many years.  Guinn, who is also a rap artist and DJ, has served on the National UNITY Council Executive Committee.  Brunoe and Guinn are ready to combine their talents to empower and motivate youth and adult participants.  Native youth peer leaders will assist in the training including Nataanii Hatathlie, Navajo, a student at Stanford University and Alexandria GreyBull, Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes, who is a student Sisseton Wahpeton College.
South Dakota State Democratic Representative Kevin Killer is an invited speaker.  Killer, Oglala Lakota, is from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.  The free TNL training, which focuses on culturally relevant leadership development, will include:    Team building activities

  •     Developing community service projects
  •     How to create a UNITY youth council
  •     Opportunity to present at a national conference
  •     Training materials
  •     Continental breakfasts
  •     Luncheon

Youth trained through this initiative will have an opportunity to play leadership roles at the annual national UNITY conference.  The next National UNITY Conference will take place next July in Washington, DC.
