Kelsey Leonard, former National UNITY Council Co-President, recently became the first Native woman to graduate from England’s Oxford University. Kelsey, a Shinnecock from Long Island, NY, completed her master’s degree in Water Science, Policy and Management and is now a consultant to various organizations on environmental policy and resource management related issues.
According to Oxford’s St Cross College website, “Before coming to Oxford, Ms. Leonard served as a youth leader within the United American Indians of Delaware Valley, Philadelphia, PA. She went on to become the executive co-President of a national Native Youth Organization called UNITY. She was also the first member of the Shinnecock Nation to graduate from Harvard University, where she served within various Native undergraduate organizations including the All Ivy Native Council and the Harvard University Native American Program (HUNAP).” Read the rest of this story on the St Cross College website.
