
Mesa, Arizona—Motivational trainer Robert Johnston, Choctaw, recording artist and speaker Marcus Guinn, Osage and Potawatomi, and peer trainer Leslie Locklear, Lumbee, are teaming up to offer free leadership training for up to 80 American Indian and Alaska Native youth from September 30 to October 2 in Anchorage, Alaska. United National Indian Tribal Youth, also known as UNITY, in partnership with the Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) is hosting the “Today’s Native Leaders” (TNL) youth leadership event at the Anchorage Sheraton Hotel and Spa. There is no registration fee.

TNL goes to Palm Springs with surprise Special Guest
December was a great month for the Today’s Native Leaders team as they traveled to Palm Springs, CA for a TNL training session. More than a hundred Native youth from communities in California, Oklahoma and Arizona to as far away as Arlee, Montana, Presque Isle, Maine, the Tlingit communities of southeast Alaska, and the village of Nuiqsut on the North Slope of Alaska worked diligently on service projects they planned during the course of the weekend.

Through the school system, each village has a regional youth council where members are provided opportunities to develop leadership skills essential for academic and career success.
