This webinar series presents the basic concepts of Motivational Interviewing (MI), its relationship to those individuals facing change, especially in this unprecedented season of pandemic. This training is for helpers who work with American Indians and Alaska Natives (AIAN). It is intended to elicit recognition of natural skill in engaging ambivalent clients, and go deeper by connecting innate ability with the evidence based practice of MI. The material is applicable to many helping roles including professionals in behavioral health

Idyllwild Arts Open House for Native Students interested in World Class Arts Education

Join us for one of four online Information sessions designed specifically for Native American students, families, and parents curious about the Idyllwild Arts Summer Program (all ages) or Idyllwild Arts Academy (grades 9-12 + postgrad). Faculty, alumni, and staff will share information about attending high school or summer camp on our beautiful mountain campus in the middle of Cahuilla Country, as well as about our online learning options, our new Gap Year program, and scholarship opportunities. Each session is a one-stop shop packed with information.

Indigenous 20 Something Project Gathering

The Native Wellness InstituteCenter for Native American Youth and, We R Native are partnering together “calling in” all Indigenous young people, who are in their late teens through early 30’s, to come join in on this unique collaboration where we will gather virtually to learn, share, connect and strategize ways to help this generation let go of things that no longer serve them in a good way and how to better live a life of balance.

Learning with UNITY Alumnus Michael Preston

Recent Gila River Indian Community UNITY alumnus Michael Preston shared his knowledge and perspectives with UNITY advisors working with local youth councils as part of UNITY’s Fall 2020 Webinar Series. Michael took part in a webinar called “Youth Participation in the Decision-Making Process” He share many interactive communication tools and applications to engage youth in the decision-making process. 

As a youth, Michael started his journey in leadership development by serving as the President of the Akimel O’odham/Pee-Posh Youth Council. He was also an active member of the National Youth Network. His training and experience provided him the opportunity to serve as the Male Co-President of the National UNITY Council in 2001.

Guest presenter Ginger Martin (Gila River Indian Community – Akimel O’odham), is the Owner of Sunbird Enterprises, LLC., and UNITY Alumnus, Original UNITY Earth Ambassador (1990).  This webinar will explore how Youth Councils can ensure that youth have access to: Ongoing relationships with tribal leaders; Safe places with structured youth activities during the non-school hours; Training and Organizational support;  Opportunities to give back through community service; Offer input into the issues affecting their peers, provide guidance and feedback in tribal policy formation; and serve as effective spokespeople for the tribe.
