AMA Foundation Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarship Program

Applications for the AMA Foundation Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarship program are open for 2021 at http://amaf.smapply.io. Of special note are the Underrepresented in Medicine, David Jones Peck, MD Health Equity, and DREAM MD Equity Scholarships – but all categories are open to all rising final-year medical students who meet the eligibility requirements. More information can be found at the application portal (link above), the AMAF website (www.amafoundation.org) and questions can be directed to AMAF Program Manger Emily Demko at emily.demko@ama-assn.org. The deadline is March 31.

UNITY in Alaska 2018: Part #1

FAIRBANKS, ALASKA – The University of Alaska Fairbanks Tribal Management Program – Tribal Youth Advocacy Institute brought together 19 Alaska Native youth from across the large state of Alaska. Apsaalooke Nation celebrates the Centennial Crow Fair

BAAXAWUAASHE (Crow Agency, MT) – Crow Fair is the annual celebration of the Apsaalooke (Crow) people. This year was very significant because it was the Centennial celebration. Crow Fair is the largest Native American event in Montana. It is one of the most unique events in Indian Country consisting of a powwow, rodeo, Indian relay, parades, a 5K run, and many other events. Sky Wildcat Chosen for Cherokee Environmental Leadership Program

Sky Wildcat, recent UNITY’s 25 Under 25 Awardee, was one of four chosen to participate in a three year program incorporating Cherokee (ᏣᎳᎩ ᎦᏬᏂᎯᏍᏗ, Tsalagi Gawonihisdi) language revitalization and cultural environmental stewardship. Wildcat explains how earlier this month she “began the Cherokee Environmental Leadership Program where we will focus on learning the Cherokee language, identifying medicinal plants, their uses, and English/Latin/Cherokee names.”

UNITY youth leader leads team to NABI championship 

The 2018 Native American Basketball Invitational kicked off on July 8, 2018 in Maricopa, Arizona. The annual national tournament brings young athletes from across the United States and New Zealand to the desert for the largest rumble of “Rez ball.”  Joining the action this year was UNITY youth leader, Coach Santana “Sonny” Johnson of Team Indigenous, hailing from Shawnee, Oklahoma.
